Couple friends
You're familiar with the typical couple story. After you get married, you have kids and pursue your respective careers. Through all that, you try to grow together as a couple. You achieve this with the help of other couple friends. There are times though that life's challenges pull you and your spouse apart. One or both of you invest a lot of time at work which means less time spent as a couple, and lesser time nurturing friendships with other couples.

Why is it important to develop couple friendships?

Studies show that having friends make you happier, live healthier and live longer. Friends help you stay active physically and mentally. Friends dissuade you from making unhealthy choices and doing unhealthy behavior. Couple friends may watch the latest comedy movies, play tennis doubles, eat at a new raved-about Italian restaurant and travel together on their dream European vacation. Their companionship fends off depression and boosts self-esteem.

Having couple friends will help you weather some tough times in your marriage and family life. You turn to them for advice or for just a sympathetic ear when things aren't quite right in your marriage. You ask them for help when you need someone to watch the kids for one night.

Challenges of finding new couple friends

But it's not always easy to find new couple friends and maintain these couple friendships.

Tommy and Millie move often because of Tommy's job in the military. Millie has a small business providing online administrative support to other businesses. It's tough for them to develop close couple friendships knowing that they'll be moving to a new place again in a few years. When they were newly married they had some couple friends. They miss having those fun times with other couples.

Jim is a sales manager who travels a lot while Liz is a nurse who works long hours. They used to go out a lot with a couple who lived nearby. But that couple had moved out. Now, their own kids aren't little anymore and their careers are fairly stable. They long to spend time with another couple who live nearby and share their interests.

Where to look to find new couple friends

Tommy and Millie and Jim and Liz all want to make new friends with other couples. With their situations, how do they do that?

Fortunately, almost everything can be found in the internet these days. While most online dating sites match singles, there are some websites that offer a matching service to couples. These couples sites work just like singles sites, helping couples select compatible couples living in their area based on certain factors like age, background and interests.
